Sponge iron
Sponge iron, also known as Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), is a raw material produced through the direct reduction of iron ore. It is manufactured in porous, sponge-like pieces and serves as an alternative to scrap iron in steelmaking furnaces. In the direct reduction process, iron ore reacts directly with natural gas or carbon at lower temperatures than a blast furnace to produce metallic iron.
Sponge iron, with its high iron content and low impurities, is a high-quality raw material for steel production. It is especially used in processes such as electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaking. Overall, sponge iron provides a more cost-effective and cleaner source of iron for steel production and is widely utilized in steel plants.
Arfa Company supplies and sells sponge iron, providing this essential raw material for domestic steelmaking industries as well as for international markets, particularly for processes that require high-purity iron.
